10/15/63—TUESDAY: “In the morning Oswald goes to Texas School Book Depository, 411 Elm Street . . . to see Roy S. Truly, Depository superintendent, about a job. According to Truly’s testimony: ‘He came in, introduced himself to me, and I took him in my office and interviewed him. I gave him an application to fill out, which he did. . . . He stressed he really needed a job to support his family. . . . He seemed to be grateful that I was giving him the chance of a little extra work. . . . So I told him if he would come to work on the morning of the 16th, it was the beginning of a new [semimonthly] pay period. So he filled out his withholding slip, with the exception of the number of dependents. He asked me if I would hold that for 3 or 4 days, that he is expecting a baby momentarily. . . . His hours were from 8 in the morning until 4:45 in the afternoon. His lunch period was “from 12 to 12:45. ” His pay was ”$1.25 an hour.“ He worked a ”5-day week. . . . We had no record of his missing any days. ’ ” Time clocks are not used. His employer considers it a temporary position.600 “Oswald telephones Irving immediately. Ruth Paine answers. According to her testimony ‘He asked for Marina. . . . She said, ’Hurray, he has got a job. . . . We must thank Mrs. Randle.’ ”601
